This 2-hour clinical application presentation explores the adjustment as one therapeutic input within a broader neurophysiological model of care. The course examines how clinical interventions, patient physiology, environmental factors, and perception influence pain processing, neuroplasticity, autonomic regulation, and recovery.

Participants will learn to distinguish between the source of pain and the broader drivers of the pain experience, including sensitization, fear, stress, lifestyle factors, and other physiological influences that may affect recovery. Emphasis will be placed on clinical reasoning and matching the appropriate intervention to the patient’s current neurological and physiological state.

Understanding Golf Swing Biomechanics for Injury Prevention & Performance
Location TBA

Although golf is a non-contact sport, injuries are common and often debilitating. Low-back pain is the most common with upper extremity a close second. Chiropractors are a logical choice for treatment and management of these conditions. No different than other sports, biomechanics can play a crucial role in predisposing the golfer to injury. Chiropractors who are specializing in golf need to have a firm understanding of the biomechanics of the swing.

This two-hour course will walk the participants through basic and more advanced biomechanics of the golf swing. Although every golf swing is unique to the individual, there are distinct things that all great golfers do consistently. A thorough breakdown of these key movements will be demonstrated. Often, the golfer will have limiting factors in their joints and soft tissues that will prevent them from being able to move correctly throughout the golf swing. Observation of the swing is not enough to see these musculoskeletal deficiencies. Specific screens are required to identify these nuanced movement faults. As these get addressed by the chiropractor, the golfer must know how to utilize them in their swing.

The golf swing is a kinetic chain of events that requires full expression of joint movement and stabilization. Traditional chiropractic care can be useful, but it is usually not enough to remedy the complex action that is unique to the golf swing. Participants will be shown these key links along with exact palpations and adjustments that address these movement restrictions. Joint motion without motor control and correct stabilization in the golf swing often leads to inadequate performance. Therefore, corrective exercises and rehabilitation are a hallmark to world-class treatment of the golfer. The contemporary chiropractor utilizes this multi-modal approach to work with golfers of all levels. This approach is what has landed chiropractic at the forefront of the treatment of professional and elite golfers. In fact, surveys show that touring professional golfers utilize chiropractic care and often chiropractors play a major role on their medical teams.

Participants will leave this two-hour discussion with the confidence necessary to analyze the golf swing; address key movement restrictions; and apply targeted stabilization exercises. Understanding the biomechanics of the golf swing is a critical prerequisite to world-class treatment. However, chiropractors do not have to be great at golf themselves to be great at treatment. Golf is considered a sport for all ages. The chiropractor can play a vital role in keeping the golfing population healthy and performing better.
